Tail-lift delivery uses a vehicle-mounted platform to lower suitable freight from the vehicle bed to ground level. It can help when the receiving business lacks a loading dock or forklift, provided the complete load and site conditions fit the agreed equipment.
What needs checking?
The carrier must consider the unit’s gross weight, footprint, height and stability. The lift platform, pallet truck and working space all have to suit the operation. A pallet’s own load rating does not establish the tail lift’s permitted load.
Give the packed dimensions and weight of every different unit rather than relying on an average shipment weight.
Ground conditions matter
- Provide a safe place for the vehicle to stop and deploy the lift.
- Keep the unloading area clear, firm and level.
- Declare slopes, kerbs, steps, gravel and restricted passages.
- Make sure the goods can be moved at the agreed handover point.
Ordinary pallet trucks are not intended to carry heavy freight over stairs or rough ground. A tail lift also does not automatically provide inside placement or installation.
What about heavy or tall pallets?
