Long goods can require a different loading plan from standard pallets, even when they are relatively light. Provide the full packed length, width and height, the weight of each unit and any restrictions on support or orientation before requesting a quote.
Support the complete item
Use a suitable transport frame, crate or other packaging that prevents bending and uncontrolled movement. Long items should not rely on a short pallet supporting only their middle unless a competent packaging design specifically provides for that arrangement.
Protect exposed ends and sharp edges. Keep individual lengths secured within the handling unit so they cannot slide out during braking, turning or handling.
Describe the loading method
State whether the goods require rear, side or top access and which equipment is available. Give approved lifting or support information for the product. The manager needs to check vehicle access and the practical movement, not just total volume.
Explain handling restrictions
- Must the unit remain horizontal?
- Can it be turned or tilted?
- Is anything allowed to be loaded above it?
- Are there minimum support spacing requirements?
- Can both sites accommodate the unit’s turning path?
Before collection
Provide photographs or a dimensioned drawing for an unusual load. Confirm the final package count and dimensions after bundling. A long load’s acceptance, price and route require individual assessment; a standard pallet quote should not be reused without that check.
