A pallet shipment combines goods and their load carrier into one unit that can be handled mechanically. For a successful booking, the pallet must suit the goods, the packaging must hold them securely and the quoted dimensions must describe the finished unit.
Four checks before requesting transport
- Choose a sound pallet with a suitable footprint and load rating. Goods should be supported across their base rather than balanced over an edge.
- Secure the goods against movement. Protect vulnerable corners and use a restraint method appropriate to the product.
- Measure the outside length, width and total height after packing. Weigh the goods together with the pallet and packaging.
- Check collection and delivery equipment. Tell us whether each address has a forklift, loading dock or needs a tail lift.
Standard pallet size is not a transport limit
An EPAL Euro pallet has a footprint of 120 × 80 cm. The permitted shipment height and gross weight depend on the service, vehicle and handling equipment. The pallet manufacturer’s load rating does not establish the capacity of the delivery vehicle’s tail lift.
Information that changes the quotation
Declare whether the unit is stackable and whether the goods can tolerate handling through freight terminals. A tall, top-heavy pallet or an item with fragile projections may require a different solution from an ordinary load of cartons.
Also identify the exact collection and delivery postcodes, dates and access restrictions. A warehouse with a dock and a shop without unloading equipment need different planning even when the pallets are identical.
