DAP means Delivered at Place. Under Incoterms® 2020 DAP, the seller delivers when the goods are placed at the buyer’s disposal on the arriving means of transport, ready for unloading, at the agreed destination. The named place is therefore a central part of the term.

Practical allocation under DAP

The seller arranges carriage to the named destination and bears the relevant risk up to delivery there. The buyer normally handles unloading and import formalities, while the seller handles export formalities under the rule. Consult the full rule and contract for the detailed allocation.

Describe the place precisely

“DAP London” is less operationally clear than identifying the intended warehouse or receiving point. The buyer and seller should agree what location the term refers to, then give the carrier a workable physical address and access instructions.

DAP does not book unloading equipment

Even when the sale terms allocate unloading to the buyer, the transport still needs an agreed practical method. If the destination has no forklift or dock, tell Cargo Euro Hub before booking so a suitable arrangement can be assessed.

Keep customs responsibility clear

Identify the importer and appointed representative where import clearance applies. A seller paying the road freight does not automatically mean the seller also pays every import tax.

Before accepting a freight quotation

Share the agreed delivery term, named place and version, along with any specific commercial instructions. The manager’s quotation should make the transport and customs service scope clear; the Incoterm alone is not a full freight booking.

Read Incoterms, loading responsibilities and duties and import VAT.
