Good freight packaging protects the product, keeps the load stable and allows the carrier to handle it safely. The packaging should match the actual journey, including any terminal transfers or sea connection, as well as the goods’ physical characteristics.
Think in four layers
| Packaging task | Practical question |
|---|---|
| Product protection | Can surfaces, corners or internal parts be damaged? |
| Internal stability | Can items move inside the box or crate? |
| Unit stability | Can the goods shift on their pallet or base? |
| Handling access | Can the complete unit be lifted and identified correctly? |
Common problems to prevent
Reused cartons can lose strength. A damaged pallet can fail even if the goods are wrapped neatly. Loose items in a box can collide with one another, while overhanging freight remains exposed to contact during handling.
Inspect packaging materials before use and select them for the actual weight and product. Sales presentation packaging may need an additional transport system.
Tell us about limitations
Declare non-stackability, special lifting points, moisture sensitivity and other handling restrictions when requesting a quote. A sticker added after booking does not automatically change the service or reserve space above the load.
Before handing over the shipment
Check that the package count, labels, gross weight and finished dimensions match the booking. Photograph unusual or valuable items before and after packing. Keep necessary documents accessible without placing loose paperwork where it can be lost.
For specialised cargo, follow the manufacturer’s handling instructions and obtain suitable packaging advice. Start with pallet packing, boxing commercial goods or pallets and wooden crates according to the load.
