Stackable freight can safely support compatible freight above it within its verified limits. Non-stackable freight cannot. The classification affects loading plans and the use of vehicle space, so it should be declared when requesting the quotation.
A flat top is not enough
A box may look level but have insufficient compression strength. A machine may have a cover that cannot carry extra weight. A wrapped pallet can be stable during movement yet still be unsuitable for another pallet above it.
Use the product and packaging specifications to establish what the unit can support. If its capacity is unknown, tell the manager rather than selecting stackable to obtain a lower price.
| Check | Question to answer |
|---|---|
| Load-bearing strength | What weight can the complete unit safely support? |
| Contact surface | Can an upper load be supported without damaging the goods? |
| Stability | Will the combined arrangement remain stable? |
| Handling restrictions | Are orientation or pressure limits specified? |
Non-stackable does not remove packaging duties
The goods still need protection and secure attachment to their base. A cone or label can communicate the instruction, but it does not replace the correct booking information or physical protection.
Why the quote can change
If another load cannot use the space above your freight, more vehicle capacity may be reserved for it. The pricing effect depends on the carrier’s service and loading plan, not a universal percentage.
Declare stackability and any permissible top load clearly. Read stackability and price and pallet height before finalising shipment details.
