Solar panels need packaging that protects glass, frames and electrical connections while maintaining the manufacturer’s permitted transport orientation. Request a shipment assessment using the exact panel type, package design, dimensions and weight. Do not assume every panel model can be stacked or transported in the same way.
Start with the manufacturer’s packing specification
Use the specified supports, separators, edge protection and outer restraint. Retain original transport packaging only if it is complete, sound and suitable for the new journey. Reused packaging with missing supports can leave panels exposed to bending or impact.
Control pressure and movement
Prevent panel-to-panel contact where the packing design requires separation. Avoid placing uncontrolled strap pressure on glass or unsupported frame sections. The packaging should keep the load stable without using fragile components as structural support.
Tell the manager what the load permits
- Required orientation and handling restrictions.
- Whether anything may be placed above the package.
- Number of panels and handling units.
- Full packed dimensions and gross weight.
- Loading and unloading equipment at both sites.
Prepare the receiving team
Arrange a suitable unloading area and competent handling staff. Inspect the exterior before signing the receipt and check the panels promptly after unpacking. Keep packaging and photographs if damage is discovered.
If batteries, inverters or other equipment travel with the panels, list them separately and declare any additional classification requirements.
