Check the quotation itself to establish whether the displayed freight price excludes VAT or includes a stated VAT amount. Cargo Euro Hub applies tax treatment according to the customer details, transaction and applicable rules. There is no single VAT treatment for every European shipment.
What to check in the offer
- The net service amount.
- Whether VAT is added, and at what stated rate.
- The total payable and currency.
- Any explanation of the applicable tax treatment.
- Which services or third-party amounts are included.
For business services, the customer’s business status and place of establishment can be relevant. The physical route alone does not establish the VAT treatment, and a cross-border movement is not automatically VAT-free.
Provide the right customer details
Submit the legal company name, billing address, country and VAT identification number where applicable. Explain if the contracting customer, payer and consignee are different businesses. These roles should not be treated as interchangeable.
Transport VAT and import charges differ
VAT on the freight service is a separate question from import VAT or customs duty on the goods. A quotation for carriage should not be interpreted as including every border charge unless its scope says so.
Ask the manager to clarify an unclear total before accepting the offer. Your accounting adviser can help establish how the transaction should be recorded by your business.
