Describe the goods, not just their container
“Two pallets” tells us how the shipment is presented, but not what is being transported. A useful description is “two pallets of boxed steel brackets, 420 kg gross each”. It identifies the product, handling unit and weight without requiring a long product catalogue.

Items needing an individual check
Dangerous goods, temperature-sensitive products, liquids, batteries, unusually valuable cargo and oversized items require assessment before a standard service can be offered. Describe these characteristics at the enquiry stage. A product being sold commercially does not automatically make it suitable for a normal parcel or pallet network.
Prepare for the handling method
Goods should remain stable when lifted, moved and secured. Packaging for repeated terminal handling may differ from packaging intended for a direct vehicle journey. Photographs are particularly helpful for machinery, unusual shapes and used equipment.
